Mandate and mission
The Tribunal hears complaints from public servants alleging reprisals for reporting wrongdoing. Cases are referred to the Tribunal by the Office of the Public Sector Integrity Commissioner.
The Tribunal’s mission is to help support an ethical culture in the public service by hearing cases quickly and impartially. Its key responsibilities include:
- ensuring that processes are fair and transparent
- ensuring that parties are treated fairly and impartially
- rendering sound and well-reasoned decisions
- informing key stakeholders and Canadians about its role and mandate
- providing public access to its decisions
The Tribunal holds hearings that are chaired by one or three Tribunal members. The Tribunal can grant remedies to complainants and order disciplinary action against persons who make reprisals.
